Achieving your dream of becoming a doctor involves years of effort, education and commitment. For students who come from low income families, it can be an extra struggle to support themselves through university while still finishing a medical degree. The high costs of studying can add to the pressure of a career in medicine.
In light of the role of education in nation building, the High Chiefs Bode and Betty Osedimilehin Foundation (HCBBO Foundation) has increased its 2026 scholarship support to students in public universities in Nigeria who are studying medicine. The initiative is aimed at assisting students who are worthy but unable to fund their education.
Supporting 21 Medical Students in 2026
During its 2026 scholarship programme, HCBBO Foundation provided sponsorship to 21 medical/dental students attending Nigerian public universities. The programme was a reflection of the Foundation’s greater effort to ensure students, who due to financial constraints, are more likely to struggle to complete their study.
Medical students spend years of lectures, tests, and hands-on learning and years of clinical experience before they qualify. Financial aid can reduce some of the stress of working towards that kind of rigorous education.
By including medical students in its scholarship programme, HCBBO Foundation is extending its educational support to young people preparing for professional careers that can contribute to society in the future.
Breaking Financial Barriers to Education
The purpose is not simply to provide financial assistance. It is to create an opportunity for students to continue developing their knowledge, abilities and professional potential.

Why Supporting Medical Students Matters
For HCBBO Foundation, this approach connects its immediate support for individual students with its wider commitment to community development and a better future for the next generation.
Education as a Pathway to a Better Future
HCBBO Foundation’s work recognises that people need different forms of support at different stages of life. Its educational scholarships, alongside its commitment to women and artisan empowerment, reflect a broader goal of creating opportunities for people facing financial disadvantages.
That vision includes a medical student scholarship program. By allowing students to further their professional training, the Foundation is helping students towards their goal and fostering skills and knowledge to serve society.
The 21 medical and dentistry students supported in 2026 represent an important part of this year’s educational intervention. Their academic journeys will continue to require hard work, determination and responsibility, but financial support can make the road ahead more manageable.
Continuing the Commitment to Educational Opportunity
The work reflects the vision of the Foundation’s founders, High Chief Dr. Olabode Samson Osedimilehin and High Chief Mrs. Oluwatoyin Elizabeth Osedimilehin, to create opportunities for people facing financial challenges.
Investing in future doctors is a small piece of the bigger puzzle of creating strong communities through education and empowerment. By opening doors of opportunity for worthy students to follow their dreams, HCBBO Foundation is playing a part in the future where money shouldn’t be a barrier to knowledge.
